Can Australia take a series-winning lead?

  • Australia have successfully chased down a total in back-to-back games
  • The star-studded Windies lineup has been inconsistent
  • Aussies have a great variety in the bowling department

Australian batters are in great touch. They have delivered back-to-back wins in the first two matches of the 5-match series. Josh Inglis, Cameron Green, and Mitchell Owen have been the architects of their winning run so far.

The 3rd T20I of the series will be played at Warner Park in St Kitts. It is not a high-scoring venue and, unlike the previous two matches, the bowlers will hold the upper hand in this game.

Adam Zampa will be one to watch out for in the Australian bowling attack. He got through the Windies top order in the 2nd T20I along with Glenn Maxwell as the two shifted the momentum of the game in their favour.

The West Indies have a deep batting lineup, with Andre Russell coming in at number 7. Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell will be the key players in the middle order for the home team.

West Indies Preview

There is no dearth of talent and experience in this batting lineup. There are plenty of big-hitters at key positions who can lead the side to a big score. The hosts posted a 189-run total in the first match, but failed to defend it.

Though it seemed like a good enough total, they could have crossed the 200-run mark had Russell and Powell delivered significant contributions in the lower middle order.

In the second match, at the same venue in Jamaica, Russellโ€™s 36 off 15 balls at number 7 helped West Indies bounce back after they were reduced to 98 for 5 in the 14th Over.

Brandon Kingโ€™s quick fifty at the top had Windies 63 for 1 in 8 Overs. It could have been a better score at the fall of the first wicket, if not for the slow start from skipper Shai Hope.

Hope, Hetmyer, and Roston Chase had all delivered impactful knocks to lead the team to a 189-run total in the opening game. They are crucial in the top order and will be expected to get back to form.

Australia Preview

Australia will be eager to seal the series in this match. They have an in-form lineup with key players delivering impactful performances that put them ahead in the contest.

Adam Zampa finding his rhythm in the last match is a great sign for the visitors going ahead. Glenn Maxwell also delivered key wickets for the team to put the opposition on the backfoot.

The two will be crucial with the ball in this match too. While Nathan Ellis and Ben Dwarshuis can be expensive, we expect them to deliver a better performance in this match.

The two have a knack for delivering breakthroughs early in the game, and with the conditions favouring the bowlers on this ground, the two will have the edge over the batters.

Skipper Mitchell Marsh hasnโ€™t looked comfortable as opener. The opening partnerships in the last two matches have been 13 and 12 runs respectively. This is an area the Aussies will be looking to work on.

Weather Conditions

It will be partly cloudy in Basseterre, St Kitts, with a high of 28 degrees Celsius around the match time. There are no signs of rain during the time of the match, and we should expect a complete, uninterrupted, and exciting contest between the two sides.

WI vs AUS Pitch Report

It is a bowling-friendly wicket at the Warner Park in Basseterre, St Kitts. The average 1st innings score in the last 10 matches here is 142 runs. The record for the highest score chased in a T20 international at this venue is 163 runs. The 3rd T20I of this series is likely to be a low-scoring encounter.

Toss: To Bowl

Teams bowling first have won 6 of the last 10 T20 matches played at this venue. Even in the international fixtures, the chasing team has won slightly more games on this ground. Considering Australiaโ€™s recent success in chasing, and the home teamโ€™s failure in defending a total, it should be an obvious choice to bowl first in this match.
