After losing their opening game against San Francisco Unicorns, Washington Freedom picked up their first victory of this season with a five wicket win and 39 balls remaining over Seattle Orcas on Saturday.
Key for Washington Freedom was their bowling attack who setup the victory by restricting the Orcas to 145/9 from their 20 overs. This looked like something that only Washington could dream of after 5.1 overs when the Orcas were wicketless and already on 60 runs!
However, figures of 0/25 from Saurabh Netravalkar, 4/19 from Ian Holland and 2/24 from Jack Edwards mean that Freedom come into this clash targeting a second win in a row.
With the bat, Rachin Ravindra took all the headlines with 44 runs from 18 balls at the top of the order but his opening partner Mitchell Owen is also in strong form. Skipper Glenn Maxwell, who struggled during the Indian Premier League, finished the game off with 38 not out from 20 balls and his form could be crucial for Washington’s form across the rest of the tournament.
Los Angeles Knight Riders Preview
Los Angeles Knight Riders have bowled first in both of their games so far this season and been beaten each time. In their opener they lost by 32 runs by San Francisco Unicorns before losing by 57 runs against Texas Super Kings.
Only three of Los Angeles Knight Riders’ bowling attack picked up a wicket in their last game and that is an area of the side which must improve if they are to get the better of Washington Freedom in this match.
Tanveer Sangha led the bowling figures with 2/32 against the Super Kings but Sunil Narine and Ali Khan will both be important for keeping the economy rate down in this clash.
The batting line-up had a day to forget against Texas with only Alex Hales and Matthew Tromp able to how any dominance over the bowling attack. Andre Fletcher, Andre Russell and Sunil Narine will all be crucial in this fixture.
