SL vs BAN Match Prediction & Analysis
After winning the Test series 1-0, the hosts will be out to clinch the one-day series as they take on Bangladesh in the 2nd match at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Bowlers dominated in the last match here, giving batters a hard time.
Skipper Charith Asalanka led Sri Lanka’s comeback after the early collapse, with a hundred at number 5. Bangladesh weren’t chasing a big total, and were off to a great start with a 71-run stand for the second wicket that saw their score go from 29 for 1 to 100 for 2.
However, a flurry of wickets from that point cut short their chase, and they were bowled out for 167 runs. Skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz leads a pretty solid squad with depth in their batting order and variety in the bowling department.
TEAMS PREVIEW
Sri Lanka Preview
Sri Lanka have kicked off on a winning note. Asalanka led the comeback with a hundred after Sri Lanka lost early wickets in quick succession. Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis are the key batters in the top 3 who need to make a comeback in this game.
The middle order also features some reliable and solid batters like Kamindu Mendis and skipper Charith Asalanka. There is plenty of firepower in this batting lineup, and we expect them to bounce back and deliver a stronger performance in this match.
The lower middle order has some all-rounders, including Wanindu Hasaranga and Janith Liyanage. The latter is relatively inexperienced but has some decent numbers with 4 fifties and a hundred in 19 one-day innings so far. Having three all-rounders in the lineup also allows for variety in the bowling attack.
Hasaranga picked up 4 for 10 from 8 Overs in the last outing and was the top bowler for the hosts. Asitha Fernando and Maheesh Theekshana are other key bowlers in this lineup. There are plenty of spin-bowling options in the squad, and the pitch has also offered great help for the spinners.
Bangladesh Preview
Bangladesh have been quite disappointing with the bat on this tour. They lost their second Test match by an innings and 78 runs. And in the first one-day game, they went from 100 for 2 to 167 all out while chasing a 245-run target.
It is not a high-scoring venue here in Colombo. Anything around 260 can be highly competitive. Nevertheless, there have been some big scores on this ground. Bangladesh should back themselves to post a bigger total in this game. Nazmul Hossain Shanto, Litton Das, and Towhid Hridoy hold the key in the batting lineup.
They form the core of this batting order. Their performances in the middle order will be crucial to Bangladesh’s chances of winning this match. The skipper himself is a very promising batsman at number 6, followed by Jaker Ali.
In the bowling attack, Taskin Ahmed leads the pace department and was also the top bowler for Bangladesh in the last outing with 4 for 47. The experienced Mustafizur Rahman and Tanzim Hasan Shakib are other key pacers to watch out for.
Like the hosts, Bangladesh may not have as many spin-bowling options, but they have promising spinners in Tanvir Islam and skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz. While there are others in the squad who can bowl spin, they aren’t as experienced, and we reckon Bangladesh should stick to the same XI.
Weather Conditions
There will be scattered thunderstorms in Colombo with a high of 30 degrees Celsius around the match time. We can expect a game with some overs reduced, but later at night, there is a chance of showers again. It is going to be a rain-affected game, and there will be a chance of it being abandoned too.
SL vs BAN Pitch Report
It is a balanced wicket that tilts in favor of the bowlers. In the last match too, the bowlers had the upper hand in the contest. With the weather around, we expect batters to have a tough outing once again. The average 1st innings score in one-day matches here is 233 runs. Anything around 260-270 will be a match-winning total in this match, considering the bowling strengths of both teams.
Toss: To Bat
Teams batting first have won 97 one-day internationals here, while the teams bowling first have won 68. The highest total successfully chased down at this venue is 292 runs by Sri Lanka. It was led by Pathum Nissanka’s brilliant hundred in 2022 against the mighty Aussies.
