After the conclusion of the ICC T20 World Cup, the finalists, New Zealand, are all set to host South Africa for a 5-match T20I series. The first T20I of the tournament will be played at the Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, on 15th March from 11:45 am onwards. Both teams have rested the key players from the World Cup squad. 

New Zealand is coming to the series with a heartbreaking loss against India in the ICC WT20 Final. They will be playing with just 4 players from the World Cup squad – Mitchell Santner, Ish Sodhi, Devon Conway, and Cole McConchie. While Santner scored 120 with the bat and picked up 2 wickets in the World Cup, Conway didn’t get a chance to play in the playing eleven.

New Zealand lost its last game against India in the finals. Bowling first they conceded 255 runs. James Neesham picked up 3 wickets for 46 and then scored 8 runs with the bat. Current New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner scored 43 off 35 runs in return. But NZ lost the game by 96 runs.

South Africa Preview

South Africa had a perfect run in the World Cup until they met New Zealand. They are coming up with 4 wins in the last 5 T20Is. But the exclusion of the World Cup players might hamper their chances of winning this game. George Linde and Keshav Maharaj are the only experienced players from the squad. The duo picked up 3 and 5 wickets respectively in the World Cup.

Tony de Zorzi will open the innings with debutant Connor Esterhuizen. Zorzi has 40 runs in 2 T20Is. Esterhuizen will be making his debut after scoring 166 runs for the Paarl Royals in the recent SA20. Dian Forrester will come in at number three.
