Despite being the new boys on the block, Lucknow Super Giants managed to qualify for the playoffs in their first two seasons, since then they have only gone downhill. This season, they have managed to keep hold of their core strength and would be eager to make it to the playoffs again after missing out twice.

Last season, Australia’s T20I captain Mitchell Marsh was the top run scorer for LSG in IPL 2025. He scored 627 runs while opening. Caribbean batter Nicholas Pooran has been the team’s best batter over the past few seasons and scored 524 runs last season, hitting 40 sixes while Marsh smashed 37 himself.

The duo will be once again responsible for setting the tone early on, looking to maximize the powerplay. Captain Rishabh Pant meanwhile had a horrid 2025 season, scoring only 269 runs. However, he ended the season on a positive note with an unbeaten century, 118 runs off 61 balls vs RCB when he finally promoted himself to number 3 in the batting order. He will most probably continue at 3. He has graced the IPL stage in 125 matches and scored 3353 runs at a strike rate of 147.60.

In the lower middle-order, the finishing responsibilities will rely on the Indian talents like Ayush Badoni and Abdul Samad. The former has a strike rate of 138.56 while the latter has scored at 151.84 scoring rate.

Delhi Capitals Preview

The Delhi Capitals is now one of the two founding member teams who are yet to win the IPL Trophy after RCB won in 2025. Their wait for their maiden title extended after they finished 5th last season, missing out on the playoffs spot by just 1 point.

The Capitals had a great start to the IPL 2025 season under new captain Axar Patel. They won 6 out of their opening 8 matches of the season, but then witnessed massive fall-off, only winning one game in the following 6 matches. They will be hoping for a winning start again and this time look to carry that momentum throughout.

Former Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul, who now plays for Delhi Capitals, was the top run scorer for the side in IPL 2025 season. He scored 539 runs in 13 innings including an unbeaten century vs Gujarat Titans. Rahul was the only batter who consistently scored well and the team would once look at him to score the runs given his experience of 145 IPL matches under his belt and scored 5222 runs. The 2nd top scorer for Delhi last year was Abhishek Porel, who scored 301 runs in 13 innings.

These two will open the innings again for the Delhi Capitals followed by the IPL veteran Nitish Rana. He is one of the best batters against spin bowling and will elevate the Capitals’ batting performance. Rana has scored 2853 runs in 118 IPL matches since his debut in 2016 and averages well 30 against spin bowling.

Then they have posted huge trust on the South African finishers duo of Tristan Stubbs and David Miller. The former had a huge responsibility down the order last season and scored 300 runs at a strike rate of 150.75. Miller meanwhile has switched from LSG to DC after an unimpressive campaign last year. Stubbs has scored 705 runs in 32 IPL matches at a strike rate of 163.20 and the veteran Miller has scored 3077 runs in 141 games, although his strike rate has seen a dip to 138.6 in the last few season.
