After India Women took the T20I series, it’s time for a day-nighter in Southampton to kick off the ODIs!

  • England Women have won their last three ODIs.
  • India Women have won their last two ODIs following a surprise loss to Sri Lanka Women.
  • India Women have won the last three head to heads in this format.

After India Women took the five match series 3-2, Harmanpreet Kaur will now be challenging her squad to come out on top across the up-coming three match ODI series.

However, that could be easier said than done as this England side will be hurting and desperate to get back to winning ways starting on Wednesday on the South Coast in Southampton!

Captain Nat Sciver-Brunt always knew these series would be a real litmus test of where her team really are and although they lost the WT20Is, they were competitive and in the series down to the final game.

Still without former captain Heather Knight who is out with injury, this represents an excellent opportunity for some England batters to make their mark with longer innings in this longer form of white-ball cricket.

England Women Preview

Although it has been a summer of transition at a managerial and captaincy level, this England Women’s side remains incredibly experienced and is a group who should all be peaking at around the same time.

Their last ODI experience was in late May and early June when Nat Sciver-Brunt’s era began with three heavy victories over West Indies Women by 108 runs, 143 runs and nine wicket.

Make no mistake, this will be a much tougher challenger for England Women and they are up against an accomplished India Women side who have their confidence up in the UK.

Sciver-Brunt and Tammy Beaumont look to be the best options for England Women’s best batters with Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Filer and Kate Cross likely to do the most damage with the ball.

India Women Preview

Although the India Women’s bowling attack does not look quite as experienced as in previous tours and years, this is still a very talented team who will cause the hosts problems in this series and in this opener in Southampton.

And an added bonus for this India Women side is that they are street-wise, they know how to get over the finish line, particularly in these conditions in the UK. The weather may be a touch cooler than recent T20Is but it will still be warm and humid, something which the India Women’s players will be happy to play in!

With the bat, this India Women team looks particularly strong with the tail not beginning until number ten!

At the top of the order Smriti Mandhana is an excellent player in this format and any of the top five could win an ODI single-handedly with an innings of individual brilliance!

Weather Conditions

There will not be a great deal of sunny spells in Southampton during this game but the temperature will peak at 24 degrees and won’t drop below 18 before the end of the match.

ENGW vs IND-W Pitch Report

There is likely to be some rain in the Southampton area on Tuesday but this pitch has been experiencing the heatwave of late so we still expect a surface which will turn. A par first innings score will be around 290.

Toss: To Bat

The best batting conditions look like being earlier in the day and the temperature will drop into the evening. Therefore, we predict that both sides will want to bat first!
