MATCH: Mumbai Indians Women vs UP Warriorz Women
DATE: Feb 28, 2024
TIME: 19:30 IST / 14:00 GMT

VENUE: M Chinnaswamy Stadium – Bengaluru, India

TOURNAMENT: WPL 2024

Mumbai Indians, the defending champions, have got off to a scintillating start in WPL 2024. They started their campaign with a thrilling last-ball win against Delhi Capitals in the curtain raiser. Sajeevan Sajana’s last-ball six helped Mumbai chase down a target of 172 with four wickets to spare. Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. faced Gujarat Giants in their second game. They restricted Gujarat to 126/9 thanks to some excellent bowling from Shabnim Ismail and Amelie Kerr. In reply, Harmanpreet’s 46 not out helped her team to secure a comfortable win with five wickets and 11 balls to spare.

Meanwhile, UP Warriorz have had a completely contrasting start to their campaign, having lost both the games they have played so far. In the first encounter, they failed to score 16 runs in the last couple of overs against Royal Challengers Bangalore, even after having four wickets in hand. The Alyssa Healy-led side eventually lost by two runs. In their second game, they were blown away by Delhi Capitals, who chased down a 120-run target with nine wickets and 33 balls to spare.

Pitch Report

So far in the WPL 2024, the M Chinnaswamy Stadium hasn’t given the kind of high-scoring surfaces that they are known for. Teams have struggled to score runs and there has also been a lack of intent to score runs from most of the teams, especially in the powerplay. Both teams have some explosive batters in their ranks and if they can make good use of the hard new ball and the field restrictions in the powerplay, there is a good chance of seeing scores in excess of 170.

Probable Playing XI

Mumbai Indians (MUM-W):

Yastika Bhatia (wk), Hayley Matthews, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Harmanpreet Kaur (c), Amelia Kerr, Pooja Vastrakar, Amanjot Kaur, Sajeevan Sajana, Shabnim Ismail, Keerthana Balakrishnan, Saika Ishaque

UP Warriorz (UP-W):

Alyssa Healy (c/wk), Vrinda Dinesh, Tahlia McGrath, Grace Harris, Shweta Sehrawat, Kiran Navgire, Poonam Khemnar, Deepti Sharma, Sophie Ecclestone, Gouher Sultana, Rajeshwari Gayakwad

Probable Best Batter of the Match

Harmanpreet Kaur was in decent form in the WBBL last year and has started the WPL strongly. She scored a 34-ball 55 against the Capitals in the first game before backing it up with an unbeaten 41-ball 46 against the Giants. If she can get off to a start, the Warriorz will find it very difficult to contain her.

Probable Best Bowler of the Match

Amelia Kerr has bagged six wickets in two games so far in WPL 2024 at an average of 10 and a strike rate of 8. She finished with excellent figures of 4/17 in her four overs against Gujarat in Mumbai’s last game. The New Zealander has an economy rate of 7.50, which is quite decent.
