WI vs SA Match Prediction – Who will win today’s 1st T20I match between WI vs SA?

MATCH: West Indies vs South Africa
DATE: August 24 Saturday
TIME: 12:30 am IST
VENUE: Brian Lara Stadium, Trinidad
TOURNAMENT: 1st T20I 2024

The West Indies will take on South Africa in a three-match T20I series which initiates with the first match to be played at the Brian Lara Stadium in Trinidad on August 24, 2024.

On the previous occasion when both sides met in the Caribbean as far as bilateral series is concerned, the Windies put on a dominating all-round display to clean sweep the Proteas. But the dynamics seem markedly altered now. Not only are South Africa coming into the game with renewed zeal after emerging victorious in the recently-concluded two-match Test series, they would also be holding a slight psychological edge which comes with them defeating the hosts of the 2024 edition of the T20 World Cup in the Super Eights.

The squad for both the sides may look a bit different with certain additions made to the lineup. One thing is guranteed though – aggressive brand of cricket on display with the hosts seeking revenge for the events which transpired during the Test series.

Probable Playing XIs

West Indies

Johnson Charles, Shai Hope, Nicholas Pooran (wk), Roston Chase, Rovman Powell (c), Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepherd, Akeal Hosein, Shamar Joseph, Gudakesh Motie, Obed McCoy

South Africa

Ryan Rickelton (wk), Reeza Hendricks, Aiden Markram (c), Tristan Stubbs, Donovan Ferreira, Patrick Kruger, Bjorn Fortuin, Nandre Burger, Ottneil Baartman, Kwena Maphaka

The wicketkeeper-batter, although having blown hot and cold while representing the Seattle Orcas in this year’s edition of the Major League Cricket, would be keen on stepping on the pedal if provided with the opportunity of opening the batting. A noteworthy innings will not only be helpful in terms of solidifying his spot for the series, but could also guarantee him a fixed spot at the top of the order for upcoming matches.

The left-arm orthodox hasn’t featured in a competitve game since a long time now. He would be aiming to  come back with a bang and make full use of the turning track on offer. The last time Fortuin played in the Caribbean was earlier this year, and he could be anticipated to be put in a shift in the game.
