United Arab Emirates (UAE) square off against Scotland in match 66 of ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 on Wednesday, 14th May. The match is slated to be played at Sportpark Maarschalkerweerd, Utrecht and the scheduled start time is 2:30 PM IST.

UAE are heading into this match after a disappointing 5-wicket defeat against the Netherlands in their previous outing, marking their third consecutive loss in the series. Similarly, Scotland suffered a 19-run loss to the Netherlands in their last game, falling short while chasing a target of 283 runs. With both sides desperate for a victory to turn their fortunes around, this encounter is poised to be a captivating battle on the cricket field.

Current Standings – Scotland currently sits in 5th position on the league table with 16 points from 14 matches, boasting a record of 7 wins, 5 losses, and 2 no-results. Meanwhile, UAE finds themselves at the bottom half of the standings with a mere 6 points from 15 matches, having secured only 3 victories and suffered 12 defeats.

Head-to-Head Record – Scotland and the United Arab Emirates have locked horns in 16 matches. Scotland has had the upper hand, securing victories in 11 of these encounters, while the United Arab Emirates have won 5 times. Their most recent showdown took place in May 2025, where UAE clinched a 97 run-victory, leaving Scotland in stutters.

United Arab Emirates Preview

Following a commanding victory over Scotland in Match 63, where the UAE outclassed their opponents to secure their third win in the CWC League 2, they have unfortunately slipped back into their losing streak, suffering a 5-wicket defeat in their most recent match against the Netherlands.

In that game, the UAE won the toss and elected to bat first, seemingly attempting to replicate the successful strategy they employed against Scotland. However, this time it backfired, as their opening batsmen failed to provide the much-needed solid start, and their middle order couldn’t adapt their play to the match situation.

Asif Khan played a gritty innings, scoring a half-century (75 runs), and a useful late contribution from Dhruv Prasar (41 runs) helped the UAE surpass the 200-run mark, eventually finishing their innings at 204 for 9 wickets. The Netherlands successfully chased down the target within 36 overs, with 5 wickets in hand. While Simranjeet Singh couldn’t quite produce a magical spell, he was the standout bowler for the UAE, bowling economically and finishing with figures of 1 wicket for 41 runs.

The UAE’s batting in the middle overs has been a significant weakness throughout this series. Their dot ball percentage has been alarmingly high, and consistently only one or two batsmen have managed to perform well in each match. This lack of collective batting effort has proven costly.  In terms of bowling, their spin attack has generally been effective, but their two pace bowlers have struggled to make an impact, with a significant portion of the opposition’s runs being scored off their bowling throughout the series.

Scotland Preview

Scotland will be disappointed with their performance in the last two matches. Their bowling attack conceded over 280 runs in both games, and despite their openers providing solid starts, they haven’t been able to capitalize and convert those starts into match-winning innings.

In their recent match against the Netherlands, Scotland bowled first and allowed the opposition to reach 282 for 7 wickets. On his return to the side, Brad Currie delivered an impressive bowling performance, finishing with figures of 4 wickets for 52 runs. McMullen, Watt, and Davidson each contributed with a wicket. When chasing the target, Scotland got off to an excellent start, with George Munsey leading the charge.

Munsey scored a rapid half-century within the first ten overs and went on to play a magnificent innings of 106 runs off 101 balls, including 12 boundaries and 3 sixes. McGreath (38 runs) and Cross (47 runs) provided stability in the middle overs, but none of the other batsmen made significant contributions, ultimately resulting in Scotland falling short by 18 runs, finishing their innings at 263 for 9 wickets.

The Scottish side will be relieved by the return of Currie, who will be a key bowler in the game against the UAE. The UAE batsmen have often struggled against express pace, and Currie has been in good form, picking up 16 wickets in his last 7 ODIs leading into this match.  Scotland will also be relying on Munsey to continue his good run of form, having scored 341 runs in his last 5 matches. While McMullen hasn’t performed well in the last two games, he is due for runs, and Scotland will be hoping for a significant impact from him with both bat and ball.

Weather Conditions

The weather at Sportpark Maarschalkerweerd, Utrecht on Wednesday, 14th May is expected to be around 14Β°C with clear skies and the wind blowing at 13 km/hr and a humidity of 64%.

UAE vs SCT Pitch Report

The pitch at Sportpark Maarschalkerweerd, Utrecht, generally favours the bowlers and tends to be a low-scoring venue. The average first innings score here is 180 runs, the presence of live grass on the surface offers swing, while the wicket also provides pace and bounce. A score of 230-250 will be above par at this venue making it difficult for the side batting second.

Toss: To Bowl

Sportpark Maarschalkerweerd in Utrecht has hosted four ODI matches to date. Interestingly, the chasing team has won three of these encounters, while the team batting first secured victory in the remaining match. We predict the team that wins the toss will opt to bowl first.
