TOURNAMENT: Sri Lanka vs Afghanistan 2024

After beating Afghanistan in the one-off Test, Sri Lanka white-washed the visitors in the ODI series and are in pole position to repeat the same in the three-match T20I series. In the first match of the series, the Wanindu Hasaranga-led side won by four runs, while registering a massive 72-run win in the second T20I. They have already clinched the series but would aim to end it on a high note.

Sadeera Samarawickrama and Angelo Mathews are in remarkable form with the bat, while Hasaranga, Matheesha Pathirana and Binura Fernando have done a commendable job with the ball. Afghanistan batters failed to make a mark in the last match as there’s a lot of room for improvement at the moment. They seem to be missing Rashid Khan in the playing XI, who has been a consistent match-winner for them in the recent past.

Probable Playing XIs:

Sri Lanka

Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis (wk), Dhananjaya de Silva, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Wanindu Hasaranga (c), Angelo Mathews, Dasun Shanaka, Maheesh Theekshana, Binura Fernando, Matheesha Pathirana

Afghanistan

Ibrahim Zadran (c), Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), Gulbadin Naib, Azmatullah Omarzai, Hazratullah Zazai, Mohammad Nabi, Najibullah Zadran, Karim Janat, Noor Ahmad, Naveen-ul-Haq, Fazalhaq Farooqi

Probable best batter of the match

Sri Lanka international Sadeera Samarawickrama is in good form at the moment. He registered a brilliant half-century in the last match and would aim to continue in the same fashion in order to finalise his spot for the T20 World Cup, which is slated to begin on June 1.

Probable best bowler of the match

Matheesha Pathirana was adjudged Player of the Match in the first T20I and he did a fantastic job in the second match of the series as well. The pacer is currently the leading wicket-taker of the series and would eye to keep up with the momentum.
