MATCH: Islamabad United vs Lahore Qalandars
DATE: Mar 06, 2024
TIME: 19:30 IST / 14:00 GMT

VENUE: Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium – Rawalpindi, Pakistan

TOURNAMENT: Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024

Lahore, on the other hand, have had a forgettable campaign in the tournament so far. They lost six games in a row before their last encounter against Peshawar Zalmi was washed out. While Shaheen Afridi’s men are still mathematically in the hunt for a playoff berth, they have to address multiple issues in order to turn things around.

These two sides met last month in Lahore. Islamabad chased down a 196-run target with eight wickets and 10 balls to spare.

Pitch Report

Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is known for producing some of the best batting pitches in the country. Last year, Multan Sultans chased down a mammoth 243-run target against Peshawar Zalmi with four wickets and five balls to spare. Also, in a match between Quetta Gladiators and Multan Sultans, a whopping 515 runs were scored. The first two games at this venue in PSL 2024 were washed out. In the third game, Islamabad scored 196/4 before restricting Peshawar to 167/9. Winning the toss and opting to bat first could be a good ploy. Putting on a massive first-innings score and applying scoreboard pressure could be a great strategy.

Probable Playing XIs

Islamabad United:

Alex Hales, Colin Munro, Agha Salman, Shadab Khan (c), Azam Khan (wk), Jordan Cox, Imad Wasim, Faheem Ashraf, Naseem Shah, Hunain Shah, Rumman Raees

Lahore Qalandars:

Sahibzada Farhan (wk), Fakhar Zaman, Rassie van der Dussen, Kamran Ghulam, Sikandar Raza, Shaheen Afridi (c), George Linde, Carlos Brathwaite, Jahandad Khan, Salman Fayyaz, Zaman Khan

Probable Best Batter of the match

Qalandars might have struggled big time in the tournament but Rassie van der Dussen has been in impeccable form. He has amassed 300 runs in six innings at a staggering average of 75 and an impressive strike rate of 157.07. The right-handed batter would be determined to help Lahore get their first win of the campaign.

Probable Best Bowler of the match

Islamabad skipper Shadab Khan will be the bowler to watch out for. In six matches, the wrist spinner has bagged nine wickets at an average of 18.89 and a strike rate of 15.33. Shadab’s economy rate is also quite commendable, conceding runs at 7.39.
