Peshawar Zalmi square off against Lahore Qalandars in match 29 of Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2025 season on Sunday, 18th May. The match will be played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Rawalpindi and the scheduled start time is 8:30 PM IST.

Peshawar Zalmi will be looking to bounce back after suffering a 23-run defeat against Karachi Kings in their previous match, where they fell short in their chase of 238 runs. Meanwhile, Lahore Qalandars also experienced a loss in their last outing, succumbing to the Karachi Kings by 4 wickets (via the DLS method) in a rain-affected game.

Current Standings – Peshawar Zalmi occupy the 5th position with 8 points from 9 matches (4 wins and 5 losses), while Lahore Qalandars are just ahead in 4th place with 9 points from 9 matches (4 wins, 4 losses, and 1 no result). This encounter is a crucial must-win game for both franchises as they aim to climb up the table.

Head-to-Head Record – Peshawar Zalmi holds a slight advantage, having won 11 of the 20 matches played between the two sides. Lahore Qalandars have secured 8 victories, with one match ending in no result. When playing at Rawalpindi, Peshawar Zalmi has a clean sweep, winning both of the matches contested against Lahore Qalandars at that venue.

Peshawar Zalmi Preview

Peshawar Zalmi will be disappointed with their performance in their recent match against Karachi Kings. Their bowlers didn’t hit their mark, and despite being in the chase for a good part of the innings (16 overs), Zalmi let the game slip away in the final few overs.

Bowling first, Zalmi conceded a high score of 237 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. Luke Wood was the standout bowler, taking 2 wickets while giving away only 19 runs. However, Ali Raza had a tough time, being very expensive by conceding 60 runs in his 4 overs (15 runs per over).

Ahmed Daniyal also had a costly spell, giving away 66 runs in his 4 overs (16.5 runs per over). Arif Yaqoob was the only other bowler besides Luke Wood who kept the runs down, conceding less than 10 runs per over and also picking up a wicket.

Then in the run-chase, Saim Ayub (47 runs) and Babar Azam (a brilliant 94 runs off just 49 balls) gave Zalmi some hope with a 77-run partnership for the second wicket. Unfortunately for Zalmi, none of the batsmen in the middle order performed as expected, and as a result, they fell short by 23 runs.

Lahore Qalandars Preview

Lahore Qalandars are in a reasonably good position right now, sitting at 4th place as they head into this game. They are coming off a 4-wicket loss against Karachi Kings, a match where they were in a strong position at the halfway point of the innings.

In their last match against the Kings, Lahore batted first and scored 160 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 15 overs. Mohammad Naeem (65 runs off 29 balls) and Fakhar Zaman (51 runs off 33 balls) got them off to a great start, putting on a 90-run partnership in 8 overs for the first wicket.

The Qalandars then added another 70 runs in the remaining 7 overs. Despite setting a decent total, the Qalandars couldn’t defend it, conceding 21 runs in the 14th over and another 20 runs in the 15th over, which ultimately cost them the match.

Fakhar Zaman is currently the leading run-scorer for the Qalandars with 309 runs. Shafique (254 runs) and Sikandar Raza (228 runs) have also made valuable contributions with the bat. In the bowling department, Haris Rauf is their top wicket-taker with 11 wickets, but he has been a bit expensive, giving away close to 11 runs per over. Sikandar Raza (8 wickets) and Rishad Hossain (9 wickets) have been key bowlers for the Qalandars in the middle overs.

Weather Conditions

The weather at Rawalpindi on Sunday, 18th May is expected to be around 33Β°C and a sunny day the wind blowing at 5 km/hr and 23% humidity.

PSZ vs LHQ Pitch Report

The pitch at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium is really good for batting and has been a high scoring venue. So far this season, the average score when a team bats first in the 8 matches played is a high 219 runs. What’s interesting is that teams batting first have managed to score more than 200 runs a whopping 8 times this season. On the other hand, when teams are chasing a target, they’ve only managed to score more than 160 runs just once this whole season.

Toss: To Bowl

Teams batting first have dominated at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium this season, winning 7 out of the 8 matches played. Chasing has proven challenging at this venue, as the pitch tends to slow down slightly, making it difficult for batters to time their shots effectively. Therefore, we anticipate that the team winning the toss will opt to bat first.
