Fortune Barishal (FBA) and Rangpur Riders (RAN) lock horns in match No. 3 of the ongoing Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) 2024 on Saturday, January 20, at the Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka.

Last year, Barishal won seven games and lost five out of the 12 they played in the round-robin phase of the tournament. They finished fourth on the points table and eventually lost to Rangpur in the Eliminator by four wickets in a game that ended in the last over.

Shakib Al Hasan was in charge of Barishal last year. This time, he will be representing the Riders but will play under the leadership of Nurul Hasan Sohan. The veteran all-rounder didn’t want to take the pressure of captaincy and that is why the Rangpur management decided to continue with Sohan as their leader.

Rangpur won eight and lost four matches last season and secured the third spot on the points table. After beating Barishal in the Eliminator, they lost to Sylhet Strikers in the Qualifier 2 by 19 runs.

He had a decent tournament last season, scoring 302 runs in 10 games, at an average of 33.5 and a strike rate of 122.26. Tamim would hope to lead his side from the front and get them off to flying starts inside the PowerPlay.

The right-arm pacer has a bag of tricks up his sleeve. He bowls a variety of slower deliveries that can outfox the best batters in world cricket. He had a fine BPL campaign last season, finishing as the joint-highest wicket-taker, with 17 wickets from 14 matches, at an average of 24.82 and a strike rate of 18.60. His economy rate of 7.98 is commendable, considering the fact that he bowled several overs at the death.
