In a year where we have already had the conclusion of the Men’s Ashes series and the Men’s T20 World Cup, it is time for the first major franchise league to get underway with the Pakistan Super League stepping forward.

The action gets underway on Thursday evening local time in Lahore although only a week ago the locations of the majority of games in the competition looked very different.

Lahore Qalandars Preview

This looks like being another strong season for Lahore Qalandars who lifted the PSL trophy in late May last year following a six wicket victory against Quetta Gladiators, secured from the penultimate ball.

Funnily enough, although the Qalandars went all the way and won the tournament, they finished down in fourth place in the league stage so will be looking for a stronger group showing this time!

With the bat, expect the opening pair of Abdullah Shafique and Fakhar Zaman to bat with real aggression with the knowledge that the pitch is true and that there is a strong line-up of batters to come after them.

Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen Preview

Despite being a new franchise in the league, Hyderabad Kingsmen have brought together a fine squad with talent across all disciplines and we expect them to be strong challengers this year.

At the top of the order, Pakistan international opener Saim Ayub will be told to go out and look to hit all balls to the boundary while Marnus Labuschagne is likely to be the anchor of the pair.

Glenn Maxwell and wicket-keeper Usman Khan can provide more fireworks in the middle order.

As for the bowling unit, Riley Meredith is the biggest name and likely to offer the most consistency. Some of the likes of Tayyab Arif and Mohammad Ali will need to step up as the tournament progresses.

According to the weather forecast, it will be a cloudy, humid and warm evening in Lahore. Expect the humidity levels to be as high as 60 percent by the end of the match.
