  • Pakistan holds a 4-1 win/loss record against Ireland in T20I’s.

Ireland take on Pakistan in the ninth match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup warm-up matches on Wednesday, 4th February. The venue for the match is the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground, Colombo with the scheduled start time set for 5:00 PM IST.

After all the drama and controversy surrounding the PCB’s stance on boycotting the match against India, Pakistan arrive in Colombo to kick-start their World Cup preparations and gain valuable match practice. They face a spirited Irish side that has shown clear signs of improvement and will be eager to test themselves and outclass their opponents ahead of the main tournament.

Ireland Preview

Ireland played a short three-match T20I series against Italy, which they won 2–1. Italy put up a strong fight, allowing Ireland to correct a few team combinations and address some earlier mistakes.

In that series, Harry Tector was the top scorer with 150 runs across three matches, while the rest of the batting lineup struggled to get going, managing scores in the 60–70 run range and averaging around 20–22. In the bowling department, Matthew Humphreys stood out with six wickets.

Ireland then followed this up with a two-match series against the UAE, where they dominated to win the series 2–0. Batting first in both matches, Ireland posted totals in the 170–180 range and won by margins of 3 runs and 57 runs.

Pakistan Preview

Pakistan arrive in Colombo amid the ongoing off-field uncertainty surrounding their participation, but on the field they come in with huge confidence after clean-sweeping Australia 3–0. It was their first-ever T20I series whitewash against Australia and their first T20 series win over a SENA nation in a long time, making them the ultimate underdogs and dark horses of the tournament.

The series proved to be highly competitive and confidence-boosting for the Men in Green, who dominated Australia across all departments. With the bat, skipper Salman Agha led from the front, scoring 120 runs in three matches, while Saim Ayub (119 runs) and Babar Azam (76 runs) also returned to form.

In the bowling department, left-arm spinner Mohammad Nawaz has been the standout, picking up seven wickets in three matches, with Abrar Ahmed also chipping in with six wickets. The biggest positive for Pakistan is their ability to field four spinners in a single match, including three spin-bowling all-rounders.

Weather Conditions

Wednesday’s weather in Colombo is expected to be warm and humid, with temperatures around 30°C. Scattered thunderstorms may interrupt play at times, with moderate humidity and a steady breeze likely to offer brief relief from the heat.

IRE vs PAK Pitch Report

The pitch Sinhalese Sports Club Ground, Colombo traditionally offers a balanced but spin-friendly Colombo surface. With an average first-innings score close to 150, an ideal par total in T20 cricket sits around 160, especially batting first.

Toss: To Bowl

Chasing sides have enjoyed more success, indicating the pitch generally remains playable, but batters must rotate strike well rather than rely purely on power hitting.
