In their previous clash in the 2025 World Championship of Legends, South Africa Champions crushed Australia Champions by 95 runs.

  • South Africa Champions will rely on AB de Villiers to deliver in this semi-final. He has been in sensational form in the WCL, and already has two centuries to his name.
  • At Birmingham, a first innings score in off around 180 is needed to keep the pressure on the chasing side.
  • Australia Champions come into this semi-final on the back of two crushing defeats โ€“ by 10 wickets against Pakistan Champions and by 95 runs versus South Africa Champions.

The South Africa Champions face off against the Australia Champions in the second semi-final of the World Championship of Legends 2025 tomorrow afternoon in Birmingham. South Africa booked their spot after finishing second in the standings with eight points from five matches. Australia picked up five points from as many games and settled for third place.

Thereโ€™s not much separating the sides on paper, but South Africa have looked more convincing throughout and should head into this clash with more confidence.

South Africa Champions Preview

South Africa Champions have had a terrific campaign so far, booking their spot in the semis with four wins from five matches. One of those was a commanding 95-run win over Australia Champions in their last match of the league stage. That result should give them confidence heading into this rematch in the semi-final.

AB de Villiers has looked untouchable at the crease, scoring 303 runs from just four innings at a blistering strike rate of 231.23. He already has two centuries to his name, including one against Australia, which makes him a central figure heading into this clash.

JJ Smuts has chipped in smartly as the next-best performer with the bat, notching up 129 runs across four innings at 157.31.

Morne van Wyk and Jean-Paul Duminy have handled the middle overs well, each getting past 60 runs in the season and keeping the innings on track. At the top, Hashim Amla has brought a steady presence, guiding the early phase with control.

The bowling unit has performed well. Aaron Phangiso has picked up nine wickets from four outings, keeping things tight with an economy rate of 4.89. Wayne Parnell and Imran Tahir have also added seven each and delivered at important moments.

Australia Champions Preview

Australia Champions have had a fairly good run this season, though they probably expected a bit more. They managed wins over West Indies Champions and India Champions, but their last two outings in the group stage ended in heavy defeats to South Africa Champions and Pakistan Champions.

Their batting unit has the muscle to cause damage, but the results have been inconsistent. Chris Lynn is capable of doing serious damage up top and has smashed 112 runs this season while going at a strike rate of 254. Ben Dunk is another who can be relied on through the middle for timely knocks.

Dโ€™Arcy Short, Shaun Marsh, and Callum Ferguson add solid depth to the line-up. Ferguson gave a strong reminder of what he can do with an unbeaten 70 off 38 against India Champions, lifting the side past a target of 204.

Ben Cutting can shift gears quickly down the order and chip in with the ball through the middle.

The bowling side has done its part. Peter Siddle has been tight with his lines, taking seven wickets in five matches at an economy of 7. Nathan Coulter-Nile and Daniel Christian have chipped in with seven between them. Brett Lee brings pace and experience up front and keeps batters on edge with the new ball.

Weather Conditions

Edgbaston usually provides a decent track for batters, with a bit of life early on for fast bowlers. The ball comes on nicely, but there can be movement up front. Spinners donโ€™t usually get much to work with unless they get strong support from their fielders. The outfield is quick, so timing matters. Teams batting second have done better on most occasions, though a shift in weather later in the day can change how the surface plays.

The forecast in Birmingham points to a cloudy day, and there could be a few showers in the evening that might impact the match.

SACH vs AUSCH Pitch Report

At Edgbaston, first-innings scores tend to settle around the 165 mark. The only completed match at the venue in this yearโ€™s World Championship of Legends saw Pakistan Champions defend 160 against England Champions by five runs. With that in mind, both teams in the semi-final have a clear idea of what to aim for. Reaching somewhere between 170 and 180 could keep them ahead of the game.

Toss: To Bat

Batting first usually works better at Edgbaston, so expect the team winning the toss to make that call.
